Following the news that the EU and the UK have agreed to extend the Brexit date to 31 October 2019, Reason’s Global’s advice from February on Green Cards when driving in Europe has now been updated.
Brokers and insurers will no longer be required to issue Green Cards for trips ending before 31 October 2019. However, until a withdrawal agreement is in place between the EU and the UK, insurers will issue Green Cards for trips after and extending beyond 31 October 2019.
In the event that both parties agree that the UK leaves the EU before the 31 October, Green Cards may again be required for EU travel beyond the date of this agreement if that agreement doesn’t provide for continuation of the current arrangements.
We’ll do our best to update you on the situation as negotiations progress. If, in the meantime, you have any questions please contact your Reason Global representative.
